LAHAINA, HI – On April 22, 2026, the Lahainaluna High School cafeteria was transformed into a hub of creativity and scientific inquiry as students, faculty, and West Maui community members gathered for the 2026 STEAM Fair and Student Showcase.
Under the theme “Igniting Innovation and Resilience,” the showcase provided a vital platform for students to demonstrate how Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) can be leveraged to solve real-world problems.
The fair featured 15 comprehensive projects developed by students in grades 9 through 12. Highlights of the showcase included: Robotics & Automation, Health Pathways, Math Transformations, Forensic Science, Bridge Building, and Student Learning Hub.
“The energy in the room was electric,” said Kulani Akahi, math teacher. “Seeing our students apply complex STEAM concepts to the concept of resilience shows that they aren't just learning for a grade—they are learning to lead. They are the architects of Lahaina’s future.”
The event encouraged "hands-on" exploration, like the “Spaghetti Tower Challenge,” allowing attendees to interact directly with the displays and ask questions of the student researchers. The collaboration between the school and the community underscored a collective commitment to equipping the next generation with the tools needed for innovation in an ever-changing world.
The event was made possible through the generous support of the Lahaina Complex Education Foundation.
