Dear Lahainaluna High parents and guardians:

The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance and this letter is to inform you about a small electrical fire that occurred off-campus today at the solar farm located across Lahainaluna Road at approximately 11:15 a.m. Firewatch alerted emergency services of smoke emanating from the solar panels and Lahainaluna school staff immediately took action to extinguish the fire. The fire was completely extinguished before Maui Fire Department (MFD) crews quickly arrived on scene. 

Our campus was placed in a Hold status for approximately 20-25 minutes and returned to normal operations after the MFD response. No injuries were reported and all bell schedules will proceed as normal.

I would like to commend our staff, teachers and students for their quick action and cooperation. Our counselors are available to help any students or school personnel who may need assistance.

The Department is working with the landowner, solar panel operator, and power company to resolve this issue and ensure campus safety.
