Principal Carosso Letter concerning the School Year 2023-2024 Registration

Lahainaluna ʻOhana,

Next Thursday and Friday, freshman, sophomores, and juniors who are currently enrolled in Social Studies will register for classes for next school year. For those taking Social Studies when we return from Winter Break, registration will take place on January 12 & 13.

We recognize that we had many challenges in scheduling kids at the start of this school year, and I again thank you all for your patience and understanding. To help address some of these issues, there will be two major changes to our master schedule. One, all full-credit courses will be year long next year, and two, we will be offering a seven period schedule, instead of the current eight.

We will be working hard to make sure that the schedule students receive at the beginning of next year has all the classes they need to be on track for graduation as well as electives they have chosen during registration.

So it is very important that students select wisely. An email is being sent home with a link to the Registration Page on the school website. Parents, please look at it with your student and discuss their choices. Teachers will also be discussing scheduling next week in Pookela, and during registration days counselors will work with students to ensure they’re selecting the classes they need. We will not be taking preference changes at the beginning of the year next August, so students, please put some serious thought into your choices.

We are all hoping for a smoother start to next school year. That begins with making sure we have a solid master schedule; and that students, parents, and teachers can get final schedules on-time so that students can begin the year from the very first day in the proper classes. Registration is key to that, and I have great confidence the students of Lahainaluna will show their pride in their school and their pride in themselves by making well-thought out selections.

Have a great Friday, and a great weekend.
