Advanced Placement (AP) and Early College

 
Lahainaluna High School's English Language Arts Department offers students who are in their Junior or Senior year the opportunity to enroll in:
 
  • AP English Literature and Composition
    • AP English Literature and Composition is an introductory college-level literary analysis course. Students cultivate their understanding of literature through reading and analyzing texts as they explore concepts like character, setting, structure, perspective, figurative language, and literary analysis in the context of literary works.
 
  • AP English Language and Composition
    • AP English Language and Composition is an introductory college-level composition course. Students cultivate their understanding of writing and rhetorical arguments through reading, analyzing, and writing texts as they explore topics like rhetorical situation, claims and evidence, reasoning and organization, and style.
 
  • Dual Credit Early College course, ENG100
    • ...students in an early college class are taught by college professors and take the class with their high school peers. Students who successfully complete the college class receive both high school and college credit.
 
 
Please review the College Board's AP Central site for more information about the AP exams for the AP English courses. Students should check with their desired colleges or universities for acceptable exam score ranges for earning college credit.  If you or your student are interested in registering for these courses, please contact their grade level counselor.
