Mr. Mahoe - US History - Grade 9

About Me
Aloha! My name is Donald Mahoe and I teach US History. This is my 9th year teaching high school social studies, and first year at Lahainaluna. Over my teaching career I have taught US History, World History, Modern Hawaiian History, Participation in Democracy, Economics, Psychology, and Math. In addition to teaching I have coached football and basketball for many years at the youth and high school levels, and I moonlight as a broadcaster for local high school sports. I have also worked in the aerospace, agriculture, banking, and software industries. I am very excited to be a part of this tremendous community and I look forward to working with all of you this school year.
Educational Philosophy
"You have not failed, unless you have quit trying" - Gordon B. Hinckley
In my classroom I strive to instill a growth mindset in all of my students and I wholeheartedly believe the following:
  • All students can learn at high levels
  • Persistent effort and practice leads to improvement
  • Embracing mistakes and using them as feedback to improve performance
  • Knowing you have the power to do anything; there are no limits
