Lahainaluna ʻOhana,

I know there has been a lot of speculation over the location of this year’s Commencement Ceremony, and I have been hesitant to share information because honestly, no definitive decisions had been made. Until now.

Our stadium track and field have been scheduled for resurfacing for some time. The bid was awarded by the State which contained a general time frame, but there were no specific dates from the contractor as to when the work could be done. I am now assured that the stadium will be under construction during late May, necessitating the school to change the venue for commencement.

I can now say with confidence, that on Sunday, May 21, the Lahainaluna Class of 2023 Commencement Ceremony will be held on Boarders’ Field. 

As this has been circulating as a possibility, I have heard many exciting stories about past graduation ceremonies there. I look forward to this return to tradition with anticipation for a magical evening celebrating this amazing group of students.

Now that the decision has been made, full scale planning can begin. More details will follow, but of course, the biggest factor for families will be that this change will come with very limited seating. Our staff will work on the details, and provide information when available.
