Lahainaluna High School Alma Mater

(Words and Music by Albert Kaleikini; Arranged by Samuel K. Mookini) (kahako not included)

‘O ka Malu ‘ulu o Lele (No e ka ‘oi)
Na kualono nani e (ku kilakila)
Me ka ua kilikilihune (A o Halona)
Ho’opulu  i ke oho ka palai

CHORUS (HUI)
‘O Lahaina, Lahainaluna nani
Ka hoku hele ho‘i o ka Pakipika
Ipu kukui ‘a mau (Pio ‘ole)
I ka makani Kaua ‘ula

Hu ‘i anu ka wai ma uka (Wai piula)
Ka ‘oe nenehe ike aumoe (‘Olu e)
‘Au ‘au na manu o ka uka (‘Oka uka weli)
Ho ‘olono  i ka leo pelekani

(CHORUS-HUI)

Oh, the land of shadow of the flying breadfruit
The wonder of lands
With the every spraying delightful showers
(of Halona)
Wetting the foliage of the ferns

Oh, Lahaina, Lahainaluna nani (beauty)
The leading star of the Pacific
The ever burning torch which cannot be
Extinguished by the fierce winds of Kaua‘ula

With the cool waters from the mountains
(the springing waters)

Dripping silently during the midnight
(so comforting)
The Birds happily breathing in its freshness
Listen to their echo in the valley

*In 1898, Albert Kaleikini, a student at Lahainaluna, went on an excursion to Pu ‘u Pa ‘u Pa ‘u.  Beholding the spectacular view, he was moved to write “Lahainaluna”, which became the Alma Mater.

YONDER LAHAINA MOUNTAINS

(Composed by Alice K. K. Banham, Boarding Department dorm matron from 1929-1956.)

There I gaze at yonder Lahaina mountains
Where hills are quiet and still,
Surrounded with its beauty and its glory
To thee this song shall ever be

Chorus:
Lahainaluna mau a mau
Aloha, aloha, home for all
Thy lovely fragrance of Oleander
To thee this song shall ever be

Kilakila ku ‘u home oia uka
Ha ‘aheo a Maui no e ka oi,
Whispering mai poina oe iae
Ka home kaulana o ka aina

(Chorus)

O KOU ALOHA

(A gift from the late Kumu John K. Lake in honor of David Malo Day 1992)

O kou aloha ka ikena aku
I ka hana lalo
A pono e haele ‘olu I loko o ke wa

Hele aku ai kupono
Ho ‘oheno mau kela
I kela maula makou e

Your love is great for all the things gone by
It’s time to move on swiftly
And it’s only time

As we move forward we will cherish
What we know will always continue
And we’ll be there
